Step 1 · Pull the inspection cover
Inspection cover is off the bottom of the bellhousing. There's fresh oil tracking down inside. Before you condemn the clutch, find out what oil it is.

Step 3 · Slip test
Truck stationary, parking brake set hard, transmission in 3rd gear. A healthy clutch will grip and stall the engine. Bring it to 2500 RPM and let the clutch out — watch the tach.

Step 4 · Inspect the assembly
Transmission is out, clutch disc removed and laid face-on. Read the disc, the pressure plate, the flywheel, and the seal — then decide what the job actually needs.
